"Jesus got up very before dawn. He left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed." ( Mark 1:35 )
"I simply tell God what I want to tell Him, without using fancy words, and He always understands me…" Prayer is a surge of the heart, a simple glance towards Heaven, a cry of gratitude and love in times of trial as well as in times of joy."
St. Thérèse of Lisieux (Ms C, 25rv)
“When we pray, God opens our eyes, renews and changes our hearts, heals our wounds, and gives us the grace we need.”
Pope Francis
“I’m thirsty”
Mother Teresa of Calcutta addressed
to his brothers and sisters, saying:
"I am concerned that some of you
have still not really met Jesus
— face to face — you and Jesus alone.
We can spend time in the chapel,
But have you seen with the eyes of your soul?
How does He look at you with love?
Do you really know the living Jesus?
— not in books —,
But what about being with Him in your heart?
Did you hear the loving words he addressed to you?
Ask for grace; He desires to give it.
Until you have heard Jesus
in the silence of your own heart,
You won't be able to hear him say "I'm thirsty."
in the hearts of the poor.
Never abandon this intimate daily contact with Jesus
like the real, living person — not just the idea.
Testimony :
A priest concerned about his church asks the sacristan to keep an eye on a curious character:
– Have you noticed the old man in the threadbare clothes who, every day at noon, goes into the church and comes out almost immediately?
I'm watching him from the rectory window. It worries me a bit because there are valuables in the church. Try questioning him.
The very next day, the sacristan waited for our visitor and approached him:
– Tell me, friend, what brings you to come to the church like this?
"I have come to pray," said the old man calmly.
– Come now! You're not staying long enough for that. You're only going to the altar and then you're leaving. What does that mean?
“That’s right,” replied the poor old man. “I don’t know how to say a long prayer, but Jesus is my Savior and my Lord, so I come every day at noon. I know He’s there, I know He hears me, and I simply say to Him, ‘Jesus!… it’s Simon.’ It’s a short prayer, but I feel He hears me.”
Shortly afterwards, old Simon was hit by a truck and treated in the hospital.
"You always seem happy despite your misfortunes," a nurse told him one day.
– How could I not be? But it's thanks to my visitor.
"Your visitor?" the nurse asked in surprise. "I hardly ever see one... and when does he come?"
– Every day at noon, he doesn't stay long, he stands there at the foot of my bed, and he says to me: "Simon... it's Jesus!"
* This is what a peasant from Ars replied to his priest who asked him what he was doing in front of the tabernacle, for so long without moving his lips.
